Ba'als (魔王, Maō?, lit. Demon Kings) are a recurring boss type and plot point in Bravely Default and Bravely Second: End Layer. They made their first appearance as Nemeses in the Bravely Default: For the Sequel as well as the initial American and European releases They appear through Wi-Fi connectivity and StreetPass as optional bosses in Norende in Bravely Default as powerful enemies, but some became mandatory bosses in Bravely Second: End Layer throughout the story.

Ba'als are demons derived from the memories of Altair and Vega, created by Providence.

Although they are extremely rare in Luxendarc to the point of being considered almost a myth, they are far more common on the Moon where the people of Fort-Lune fight with them on a regular basis to prevent them from attacking either the Moon or Luxendarc, with their personnel receive extensive training in order to face them. Ba'als are extremely fearsome monsters with levels of power that far outweigh the average monster, while also coming in rather odd shapes each resembling mutated creatures of several kinds.

In Chapter 6, shortly before the battle against Providence, Altair reveals that the Ba'als are actually the memories of Vega and Altair's romance and marriage. Providence had been taking these happy memories and gave them form through Vega's despair, creating the horrific monsters that had been attacking the Moon.

Each Ba'al coincides with an important point in Altair and Vega's relationship. Ba'al vi; Snowcap represents their first meeting, where the two met by chance on a ski lift at a ski resort. Ba'al v; Urchin represents their first time formally meeting each other as colleagues at a science research facility. Ba'al iv; Goldie represents their first date, where Altair took Vega to a summer festival. Ba'al iii; Apparati represents their line of work that they both worked closely together. Ba'al ii; Redshirt represents the night that Altair proposed to Vega, Christmas Day. Ba'al i; Turtledove represents Altair and Vega's wedding. The original Ba'al, Diamante, represents the event in which Vega was left behind in the Celestial Realm while Altair traversed to Luxendarc. Finally, the Ba'al referred to as Firstborn, which takes the appearance of a teddy bear, represents the child they never had the chance to have.

• Bravely Default: For the Sequel added Ba'al i; Turtle Dove and Ba'al iv; Goldie as a nemesis for Bravely Second: End Layer to promote the game, but only Ba'al i; Turtle Dove makes a mandatory appearance.
• Diamante is the only Ba'al that doesn't have a specific number and has its own unique battle theme, this may be because it was the original Ba'al.
