Bravely Second is a feature in Bravely Default and Bravely Second: End Layer, in which the player stops gameplay, allowing them to perform an additional attack at anytime during a battle.
Profile[]
The Bravely Second ability is gained early on, when Tiz Arrior receives the Strange Hourglass item from the Adventurer in Norende Ravine the first time. Bravely Second allows the player to stop a battle at any time, even during enemy attacks. One member of the party can then be chosen to perform an action during this time, in addition to whatever actions are already selected. This can extend from basic attacks and specials to job abilities or items. Actions performed during Bravely Second are able to surpass the typical 9999 point limit for damage or healing, making it especially useful in late game situations where the party has reached the damage limit.
Bravely Second is powered by Sleep Points (SP), which bear resemblance to Brave Points. Like Brave Points, there is a limit of 3 SP that can be stored at any one time. SP can be used in advance, but once negative numbers are reached, the player will be unable to use Bravely Second until more SP is gained. Each use of Bravely Second costs 1 SP. Should a character use an ability that costs BP, the ability will instead be fueled by an identical number of SP. Unlike BP, SP can reach negative numbers lower than -4 through the use of such abilities.
Sleep Points can be obtained in one of two ways. When the Nintendo 3DS is put into Sleep Mode with the game active, the player will gain 1 SP for every 8 hours of Sleep Mode, up to a maximum of 3. Should the player not desire to wait, SP Drinks can be purchased using real currency through the game. When used, each drink increases SP by 3.
In Bravely Second: End Layer, the mechanic is mostly unchanged, though getting SP no longer requires putting the 3DS in Sleep Mode. It still takes 8 hours to get one SP this way.
