BD Comet

Comet in Bravely Default.

Comet (コメット, Kometto?) is a recurring offensive spell in the Bravely series. It is a multi-hitting non-elemental spell often part of the Time Magic skillset in titles. Comet is considered the lesser form of the ultimate Time Magic spell, Meteor. Unlike its evolved form, Comet targets only one enemy but will randomly inflict between two to four hits, often struggling to reach its max damage potential.

An upgraded version known as Comet+ (コメット+, Kometto Purasu?) also appeared as a level 6 Time Magic spell. The spell functioned similarly to the default Comet spell, but had a higher damage potency. In order to craft the Comet+ Tome, players would need to have a crafting shop level of 13, and would need to gather the following materials - Hieroglyph x30, Archdemon Stone x30, and Star Shard x20.

Both Comet and Comet+ could only be used by the Time Mage, Fallen, and Sage jobs. Both cost 25 MP to perform.

Etymology[]

A comet is an icy small Solar System body (SSSB) that, when close enough to the Sun, displays a visible coma (a thin, fuzzy, temporary atmosphere) and sometimes also a tail. These phenomena are both due to the effects of solar radiation and the solar wind upon the nucleus of the comet.

Comet is a recurring spell in the Final Fantasy series, introduced in Final Fantasy V as a mid-ranked Time Magic spell that served as a lesser version of the Meteor spell. Later entries have featured spell as part of the Black Magic skillset instead, sometimes dealing dark-elemental damage. In addition, several entries have featured a stronger version of Comet known as Cometeor (コメテオ, Kometeo?), which functions similarly to the traditional Meteor spell.

Its appearance in a majority of the Bravely titles alludes to the its original appearance as a Time Magic spell in Final Fantasy V.
