Etymology[]
The Cure series of spells originate from the Final Fantasy series of games. The spells were first introduced in the original Final Fantasy as White Magic spells usable by the White Mage and Red Mage jobs. While the initial variants could only be targeted at a single ally, with the Heal line of spells being automatically group-cast, Final Fantasy II introduced the their current ability to be group-cast at a reduction in potency per character affected.
Although called Curada in English, the Japanese name of the spell more likely derives from the English word Care. The English word "care" is standardly transliterated into Japanese as ケア (kea?).
In Final Fantasy games with 4 tiers of Cure spells, the names of the top 2 spells in the English versions are usually Curaga and Curaja, while Curada and Curaga are more faithful to the original Japanese names, and the Bravely games with 4 tiers of Cure spells adhere to that naming scheme.
