Edna is one of the main antagonists of Bravely Default II. She is a mysterious woman that aids the Holograd Empire in their conquest of the other four countries on the continent of Excillant. Her knowledge and supply of the Asterisks serve as vital aid to Adam throughout the events of the game.

Appearance[]

Edna is a thin, pale skinned woman in appearance. When serving on Adam's council, she wears a dark-purple cloak and black veil to conceal her identity, only allowing the bottom portion of her face to be exposed.

When discarding her disguise, Edna is revealed to have short silver hair and light blue eyes. She wears a revealing tar dress and boots ensemble, with her massive purple fairy wings being exposed.

When she is overtaken by the influence of the Night's Nexus in Musa, Edna grows in size and discards her revealing dress with a dark tar ballgown replacing it. Her single pair of purple fairy wings transform to become ten monstrous black wings that resemble splattered tar. Lastly, she dons a battle mask that covers a majority of her face. [1]

Personality[]

Edna is mysterious woman that leaves her motives unknown to Adam and his council. However, she is shown to be devoted to Adam's cause of unifying the world and aiding him in whatever manner she sees fit.

However, in reality, Edna is a cunning individual who aims to manipulate many to see that her goals of awakening the Night's Nexus are completed. Due to the influence by the Night's Nexus, Edna is often shown struggling to keep her sanity from giving in to her newfound misanthropy and became a nihilist seeking to destroy everything.

In her youth, Edna is mentioned to have been a kinder fairy with an interest in humans, idolizing the world they live in and the potential they have.

Story[]

Hailing from Mag Mell, Edna lived with her sister Adelle and was originally interested in humans, but her fascination turned to hatred as she ended up under the influence of the Night’s Nexus, leaving the village while stealing the Asterisks to orchestrate a scheme to render the Crystals powerless and revive the Night’s Nexus.

Posing as a cloaked woman, Edna travels the Holograd region and offers her services to Emperor Adam, giving him the power of the Hellblade Asterisk. Edna would travel to the other countries in the world in her attempt to weaken the seal on the Nexus, giving Asterisks to several important figures in each region. With her plan set into motion, she would watch as the members of the Holograd, Savalon, Wiswald, and Rimedhal countries would attack the Kingdom of Musa and steal the Crystals for their own selfish purposes. Edna would also teach each individual the methods of siphoning the true power of each Crystal. However, with the Wind Crystal still being in the possession of Princess Gloria of Musa, Edna and Adam's plans were not yet complete.

Following, Adam's retrieval of the Wind Crystal, Edna would be seen several times scheming with the Empire's most powerful officials. However, despite being a part of his council, Marla, Lonsdale, and Vigintio remain wary of Edna's actions and fears that she misleading Adam with ideas of grandeur.

After the party stops Adam's attempt of conquering Rimedhal, he calls for his strongest to attack the other nations of the world. However, Adam and Edna stay behind in Holograd to complete the final stages of Adam's plans with the Wind Crystal. Adam questions Edna's motives and threatens to kill her should her schemes meddle with his.

Edna Reveals Herself from BDII

Once the group successfully infiltrates the Holograd capital, the group find Adam and Edna boarding the Flying Fortress, an airship powered by the Wind Crystal, and give chase to the duo.

Within the heart of the fortress, Adam battles the party and is defeated. Following Adam’s defeat, Edna reveals her true colors as she drains the Wind Crystal’s remaining power and causes the airship to descend back to the surface below. Mocking Adelle and her friends, Edna departs for a Musa to welcome the Night’s Nexus.

After the Heroes of Light open the final gateway below the the ruins of Musa, they receive a vision from Elvis's book, seeing them encountering Edna during the final stages of her plans. Adelle tries to reason with her sister, but Edna declares her hatred for humans and becomes further corrupted by the Nexus's influence while battling the party. Despite her defeat, Edna succeeds in her mission as she is absorbed by the emerging Night’s Nexus before Gloria sacrifices herself to reseal the entity. Seth and the others agree to take another path to defeat the Nexus without sacrificing Gloria, the Heroes leave for Mag Mell with Edna allowed to continue the ritual uninterrupted. She succeeds and is turned to stone by the Night’s Nexus once fulfilling her purpose, having become so corrupted by the Nexus' influence to where she actively welcomes her impending doom, valuing the destruction of humans and the entire world over her own life.

If the party is able to defeat Adam during their first encounter near Halcyonia, Edna can be seen conversing with the Night's Nexus about a change of plans; to invade the outside world, as the presence of the player and the knowledge they possess poses a threat to the Nexus' ability to resurrect itself.

Gameplay[]

Edna is fought during the finale of Chapter 5, serving as the game's first false final boss.

Edna has access to several abilities that specialize in crippling the party - Soaring Flourish, which removes the target's buffs, applies Slow to them, and Haste to herself; Silent Storm, a physical attack that hits all targets and inflicts Silence; Apoplexy, which reduces the entire party’s resistance to all elements.

She also has access to powerful magic abilities - Vortices, which launches 8 wind magic attacks on random targets; and Ultra Flare, an extremely powerful magical attack on all targets.
