Etymology[]
The name Esuna (エスナ, Esuna?) comes from the first kana of (永久 (エイキュウ), Eikyū?, lit. Eternal), (ステータス, Sutētasu?, lit. Status) and (治 (ナオシ), Naoshi?, lit. Cure). This suffix succeeds from single ailment healing spells such as Poisona from the original Final Fantasy.
Esuna is a recurring White Magic spell from the Final Fantasy series, introduced in Final Fantasy II. The exact status effects it cures have varied, but it consistently cures both the more common ailments cured by Poisona, Blindna, and usually Basuna as well as others. Whether it was a high-level spell, and whether Esunaga was present as an upgrade to it, varied between installments, and that variation is mirrored in the Bravely series.
