Flare in Bravely Default II.

Flare (フレア, Furea?) is a recurring spell in the Bravely series. It is often a powerful fire-elemental magic attack in all of its appearances. While initially appearing in the series as an enemy ability, it would eventually become a powerful Black Magic spell in later titles. It deals massive magic fire damage to enemies.

Bravely Default[]

Flare is an enemy ability that deals high magical fire damage to the entire party. It is used by Airy's second form.

An upgraded version known as Zeta Flare also appears as an enemy ability usable by Airy in her third form. It deals very high magical fire damage to the party.

Bravely Second: End Layer[]

Flare is a level 7 Black Magic spell, learned at the secret job level 11. It deals major fire damage to all targets, being automatically group-cast. It costs 80 MP to use. It can be bought at Vampire Castle for 12800 pg.

Bravely Default II[]

Flare is a Black Magic spell available at level 13 for the Black Mage job, which requires players to complete the first gate of the Halls of Tribulation. The ability serves as the final version of the Black Mage's fire-elemental magic, dealing incredibly powerful fire-elemental magic damage on a single target. It costs 80 MP to cast.

Lady Emma uses this spell when faced in the first of the Halls of Tribulation.

Etymology[]

The Flare spell originates from the Final Fantasy series of games. The spell was first introduced in the original Final Fantasy as the most powerful Black Magic spell usable by the Black Wizard job. While the spell is often non-elemental in a majority of its appearances, it has also appeared as the strongest variant of fire magic available to players in selected titles.

A flare is a pyrotechnical phenomenon that produces intense amounts of heat and energy that does not result in an explosion (an immediate release of energy).
