Folie Morris is the Pictomancer Asterisk holder in Bravely Default II, serving as the major antagonist in the Wiswald storyline.
Appearance[]
Folie wears a white hat, an artist's smock, has short black hair, and is armed with a paintbrush and an artist tray. She appears to be young, but her age is made unclear.
Personality[]
Folie is shown to be egotistical and petty, being an immoral psychopath willing to murder people in order to satisfy her artistic cravings. Despite her appearance looking like one of a young age, she is rather intelligent enough to brainwash those she can use to her bidding.
But when it comes to her artistic cravings, she shows signs of extreme, abnormal obsession such when after she was defeated, she remained in the cave to complete her work, even if it costs her life. Because of her life of wealth and being privileged she is also arrogant as she would show a great distaste to any person to the point of calling them “plebeians” and “philistines” for not understanding it, while acting with sociopathic and misanthropic malice.
Most disturbingly however, gaining the Pictomancer Asterisk amplified these negative qualities while mixing it with the vast knowledge of artistry techniques has made her to become so deranged that she can even break the fourth wall and change any events that would amuse her.
Biography[]
Coming from a wealthy family, Folie’s childhood was miserable due to being neglected with only her love for painting her comfort. She then found her calling when receiving her Asterisk from Edna, which augmented the worst aspects of her personality as she participated in the destruction of Musa and took the Earth Crystal. Folie arrives to Wiswald sometime after Elvis left and used the Earth Crystal to grow a forest within the town and around for material to create yellow paint, hiring a woodsman to gather the materials. Folie also murdered a girl named Mona with explosive paint and made it look like an accident, using a portrait of Mona to bewitch the girl’s father, Roddy McGranate, to develop means of reviving his daughter while using the by-product polluting the water for blue paint. Folie also used her paintings to place Roddy’s wife, Lily McGranate, and their friend Galahad under her control, keeping the former from halting Roddy and while having the latter guard Treetop Tower where she placed a forgery of the Earth Crystal in. From there, she murders the scholars of Wiswald, and drain them of their blood to use for red paint as she begins working on her mural in a cave she made her home in.
When the Heroes of Light arrive and break her spell over Roddy, Lily, and Galahad, they track down Folie to her lair where she was working on her mural. She fights the party with the intent of adding their blood to her masterpiece, but loses her Asterisk as the cavern begins caving in. While the Heroes escape, Folie remained to complete her work and is presumed dead.
Gameplay[]
As a Pictomancer, Folie fights using the Artistry abilities, specializing in debuffing opponents’ offenses using Disarming Scarlet and Disenchanting Mauve and opponents’ defenses with Splatter, which inflicts the Daub status. Folie also attacks with the powerful light magic Chiaro and dark magic Scuro, which deal more damage to a target suffering from Daub.
In the Halls of Tribulation, Folie still uses Chiaro and Scuro to attack but she now has a strategy revolving around the devastating Rewarding Results passive, taken from the Phantom job, which allows her to take an extra action if she successfully inflicts a status condition. This includes Daub, now inflicted by the exclusive move Deface, but it also includes Death, which she attempts to cause with the exclusive ability Star Prism.
Etymology[]
Folie's name in French means madness.
