Gladys Kelly is a non-player character from Bravely Default II. She is a member of the Dragon Guard that serves the Rimedhal Orthodoxy. A devout believer of the Orthodoxy's teachings, she sees those who doubt the will of the Lord of Dragons as blasphemous and will seek to have judgement casted upon them.

Due to her ranking within the Dragon Guard, she was gifted the Swordmaster Asterisk to further aid in her duties.

Gameplay[]

As a Swordmaster, Gladys specializes in both repeated attacks and counterattacks, using the Solid Stance and Fluid Stance respectively to aid with those styles, with Solid Right Style and Fluid Left Style, respectively becoming usable through the stance change. Gladys can also use Fourfold Flurry to perform multiple attacks no matter which stance she takes, and she can apply the exclusive ability One Step Ahead to herself or her ally Helio to perform counterattacks when the affected character is targeted by an attack.

In the Halls of Tribulation III, Gladys fights with mostly the same moves, abandoning the Fluid Stance but gaining the Swordmaster passive ability Counter and improving her team-wide counterattacking with Three Steps Ahead, applying the effect of the previous variant three times.

Behind the scenes[]

Several of Gladys's concept designs by Naoki Ikushima.

Gladys in Japanese is voiced by Mitsuki Saiga, who was the same voice actress for Tiz Arrior in Bravely Default and Bravely Second: End Layer.

Due to her relationship with Galahad, the game has both their job names reflect the connection; Gladys being the bearer of the Swordmaster Asterisk, while Galahad has access to the Shieldmaster.

Gladys was designed by Naoki Ikushima. Due to Rimedhal shifting between Japanese and European Medieval influences during the game's development, Gladys's character design was changed to reflect those thematic choices.

Initial concepts of Gladys had her heavily inspired by rōnin samurais, with several designs being based on this inspiration. This likely hints of the Swordmaster job being originally inspired by samurais, similarly to the original Bravely Default and Bravely Second: End Layer. Once swapping to the European Medieval inspirations, Gladys's designs had her in heavy armor-clad with heraldic designs on the chest plates. Her final design still borrows from European influences, being heavily inspired by fantasized versions of Nordic armor designs. [1]
