The Halls of Tribulation are a group of optional challenges in Bravely Default II in which the player can battle against a powerful group of versions of the game's Asterisk holders. There are seven gates across Excillant that, upon entering Chapter 6, each grant access to a Hall of Tribulation, in which three or four Asterisk holders are fought all at once. As a reward for completing one, the level caps for all the jobs whose Asterisk holders were defeated will be raised from 12 to 15, allowing their jobs to be fully mastered. Additionally, each Asterisk holder has a chance to drop their unique weapon, which has the added effect of granting the holder all of the passive abilities learned by leveling up that job. While 22 of the characters fought in the Halls of Tribulation are more powerful versions of previously-fought bosses, one opponent is exclusive: the former Black Mage Asterisk holder Emma, who had given the Asterisk to Elvis before the start of the game.
