Nemesis is an enemy type from Bravely Default. They can be encountered by examining the rebuilding of Norende Village, at which point they will appear as glowing black red monster icons.

Profile[]

Nemeses are obtained at random intervals, as well as sent by other players via Streetpass. Defeating a Nemesis causes it to disappear, and if the Nemesis was obtained via StreetPass, causes a villager to appear in Norende.

The several variations of Nemeses include, but are not be limited to, bosses from Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light: Leviathan, Beelzebub, Mammon, Asmodeus, Belphegor, Satan and Lucifer. Six of these Nemeses, Belphegor, Beelzebub, Asmodeus, Leviathan, Mammon, and Lucifer, can use at least one the four "-ja" tier spells, Firaja, Blizzaja, Thundaja and Aeroja which, despite being not recorded in D's Journal's section on abilities, they are Genome abilities that Vampires can learn.

On the same vein, all seven of these bosses would later make a re-appearance in Bravely Second: End Layer under the alias of the Seven Sin Beasts, and their defeat is necessary to unlock the full potential of the Yōkai Job.

Next, there are Nemeses that are harder versions of boss fights from Bravely Default: Nobutsuna Kamiizumi, Holly Whyte & Barras Lehr together, Lord DeRosso & Victor S. Court, Ciggma Khint with either Chairman Profiteur or Jackal, and Automata. These fights are level 99 (except the Khint fights which are level 30), and they will have differing names on the Norende Village screen.

Finally, there are the Ba'al Nemesis; which include the Ba'al i; Turtle Dove and Ba'al iv; Goldie. There is no previous example of these bosses. This, combined with their unique style and music, as well as Magnolia Arch referring to herself as a "Ba'al Buster", were previews of the story of Bravely Second: End Layer.

Nemesis bosses will drop stat-increasing items called Buns. Lower level Nemesis will drop single stat buns that increase single stats, while the stronger, rarer Nemesis will drop Unearthly Buns which increase all stats. Once a type of Nemesis has dropped a type of Bun the drop rate is much lower when encountered again.

Of special note is Mammon, whose some variants carry a special kind of Elixir. This variety cannot be used in compounding and costs more than regular Elixirs. This item is worth 25,000 pg, making repeatedly stealing it and running away without defeating Mammon one of the best ways of making money. Using the Thief ability "Rob Blind" will net 2 Elixirs instead of 1, ultimately speeding things up. While this version of Mammon has been stopped being officially distributed by Square Enix, it however can still be sent by other players to other players, as long as it is not defeated, and as such it will be possible to have a chance to encountering this special Mammon for as long the online functionality of Bravely Default will remain active.
