BD II Roddy Quake

Quake in Bravely Default II.

Quake (クエイク, Kueiku?) is a recurring earth-elemental spell in the Bravely series. In most titles it is often the first earth-elemental Time Magic spell players gain access to, dealing minor earth-elemental damage to enemies. It and its upgraded versions, Quara and Quaga, serve as the Time Mage job's means of inflicting damage until they gain access to the more powerful Comet and Meteor spells.

In Bravely Default II, the Quake spells are instead replaced with the Stone series of spells as the game's primary means of inflicting earth-elemental damage. Quake instead serves as the strongest form of earth-elemental magic for the game's Red Magic command.

Bravely Default II[]

Quake is a Red Magic spell available at level 13 for the Red Mage job, which requires players to complete the seventh gate of the Halls of Tribulation. The ability serves as the final version of the Red Mage's earth-elemental magic, dealing incredibly powerful earth-elemental magic damage on a single target. When combined with the Red Mage's Nuisance specialty passive, it has a chance of inflicting the Slow and Stop statuses on the damaged target. It costs 80 MP to cast.

Roddy uses this spell when fought in the Halls of Tribulation, dealing earth magic damage to a single target. Due to having the Nuisance trait active, he is able to inflict Slow or Stop when using the spell, and he performs it twice in one action due to Chainspell.

Etymology[]

The Quake series of spells originate from the Final Fantasy series of games. The spell was first introduced in the original Final Fantasy as a form of instant death magic. However, later installments starting from Final Fantasy V began giving Quake the earth-elemental damage trait. Its upgraded forms, Quara and Quaga, did not make their formal series appearance until Final Fantasy VII. However, its function as the strongest form of Stone magic originates from Final Fantasy XI.
