Bravely Default

Sleep (スリプル, Suripuru?, lit. Sleeper) is a recurring spell that attempts to place a target in the sleep status. It is normally part of Black Magic but has occasionally been acquired through other means.

Appearances[]

Bravely Default[]

Sleep is a level 2 Black Magic spell appearing in Bravely Default. It has a 75% chance to cause sleep in one target. It costs 5 MP to use. It can be bought at Ancheim for 400 pg.

The spell is used by Ominas Crowe in all battles against him except the last, as well as by Fiore DeRosa in the last battle against him.

Sleep is also a level 2 Sword Magic spell, learned from the same scroll. It imbues a weapon with the status ailment sleep for ten turns, providing a 75% chance to cause sleep in one target when attacking. It costs 5 MP to use.

Ciggma Khint uses the spell the last time he is fought.

Bravely Default II[]

Sleep is not a part of any job command, though it is used by the Bronzegoyle enemy. By capturing one using the Capture skill, the default ability of the Beastmaster Taming command, Sleep can be used by a character with Off the Leash, the Taming ability learned at job level 2 for the Beastmaster. Sleep attempts to put a target to sleep.

Etymology[]

Sleep is a state of resting, wherein one is unable to do anything else, and the spell's function is to put people into that state by inflicting the sleep status.

The ability originally appeared in the Final Fantasy, being introduced as a Black Magic spell in the original Final Fantasy. It has consistently been a low-level Black Magic spell and while the initial version targeted all enemies, most subsequent versions target only one enemy, as the version in Bravely Default does.
