The Jackal, a recurring series Thief.
Thief (モンク, Shīfu?, lit. Thief) is a recurring job class in the Bravely series. It has appeared in every installment, always being available during chapter 1.
Profile[]
Thieves specialize in using their speed as a weapon, in the sense both of being able to act quickly and to literally deal massive damage using their speed stat through their ultimate ability Godspeed Strike. Thieves also always possess the ability to steal items from enemies, some items of which are very hard to find otherwise, and to attack enemies and steal their HP in the process, though their other abilities vary between installments, usually being related either to stealing other attributes or stealing more or better items.
Thieves always specialize in dagger, with either an A or S rating, and they are usually preferable over other options due to their low weight. They are also best-suited to equipping light armor. Thieves are mainly physical attackers but with only an average physical attacking stat, though their speed stat is always excellent, and their evasion- and critical hit-related stats are among the best as well. However, their magical stats are all poor, as are their defenses.
Appearances[]
Bravely Default[]

The Thief job is acquired through a side quest in chapter 1, being obtained after defeating the Asterisk holder Jackal alongside Ciggma Khint, who departs when the battle starts going badly.
The job command of the Thief is Thievery. Thieves have an S in daggers and an A in bows, and their Life Thief ability, which would later be replaced with Steal Breath, only restores HP 75% of the time, making it less reliable than its replacements. Their Godspeed Strike is extremely powerful, both replacing physical attack with speed for the damage calculation and ignoring physical defense.
Bravely Second: End Layer[]

The Thief job is available in chapter 1, requiring completion of a side quest in order to choose to battle the Jackal.
The job command of the Thief is again Thievery, featuring largely similar abilities as before, though with Steal Breath being more consistent than Life Thief, and their new Steal Mind ability allows them to steal a target's MP as well.
Bravely Default II[]
The Thief job is obtained near the end of chapter 1, earned by defeating the Asterisk holder Bernard.
The job's Thievery skillset features similar abilities as before, but with an even greater emphasis on stealing attributes, having not only Steal Breath for HP and Steal Spirit for MP but also Steal Courage for BP. They also have strong wind-imbued physical attacks to broaden their offensive coverage, and their new version of Godspeed Strike can reach even greater levels of strength in spite of not piercing physical defense, as it adds speed to physical attack rather than replacing it and performs a second hit for the same damage shortly after the first. Thieves are not quite as proficient with daggers, with only an A proficiency, but they do possess Dagger Lore, and their high speed, evasion, and critical chance make them potent offensive threats in spite of their mediocre physical attack.

Etymology[]
A Thief is one who steals things from others, generally accomplishing this task by being quick and nimble.
The Thief job originates from the Final Fantasy series, being introduced in the very first installment. The non-magical Final Fantasy jobs did not originally possess job commands, but the Thief has the highest speed of any jobs and improves the party's ability to escape from battles. Their ability to steal items was introduced in Final Fantasy III, and this core idea of the Thief, as a fast item-stealing character, was extended by the Bravely series, which gave Thieves more things to steal and more ways to utilize their speed to attack.
