Thundaja under the effects of Rain in Bravely Second: End Layer.
Thundaja (サンダジャ, Sandaja?) is a recurring lightning-elemental spell in the Bravely series. When it appears, it is the fourth and highest tier of the lightning-elemental spells available to players in each installment.
Unlike its predecessors, Thundaja is not part of the Black Magic skillset, instead being usable by jobs associated with the undead, specifically the Vampire and the Yokai. In addition, it cannot be learned through normal means, requiring players to either get hit by the spell in battle or defeat a specific boss who uses the spell themself. It is commonly associated with the Sin Beast Asmodeus, who originally appeared in Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light.
Appearances[]
Bravely Default[]
Thundaja is a genome ability, part of the Vampirism command, learned from the Nemeses Asmodeus and Belphegor by getting hit with their use of it. It deals a tremendous amount of lightning damage to all targets. It costs 99 MP to use. Like its fellow -ja spells, and unlike genome abilities besides them, it deals magical damage rather than physical damage and does not show up in the list of genome abilities in D's Journal.
Bravely Second: End Layer[]
Thundaja is a level 1 Diabolism spell. It deals a tremendous amount of lightning damage to all targets and cannot be reflected. It costs 99 MP to use. It can only be used after defeating the Sin Beast Asmodeus, found at the obelisk near the Yulyana Woods Needleworks, who uses the spell in battle.
Bravely Default: Praying Brage[]
Non-Bravely series guest appearances[]
Octopath Traveler Tairiku no Hasha[]
Thundaja is one of Elvis's unique character skills when obtained as a unit. It deals lightning damage to a single enemy on the field.

Etymology[]
Thunder is the sound caused by lightning. Depending on the distance and nature of the lightning, thunder can range from a sharp, loud crack to a long, low rumble (brontide).
Thundaja originates from the Final Fantasy series of games, being introduced in Final Fantasy Tactics as a tremendously powerful lightning-elemental Black Magic spell. Though it is not part of Black Magic in the Bravely series, it maintains its connection to the three Black Magic Thunder spells, with the "-ja" suffix denoting that it is the level four form of the base Thunder spell.
